Stress Detection Using Proximal Sensing of Chlorophyll Fluorescence on the Canopy Level

Chlorophyll fluorescence is interesting for phenotyping applications as it rich in biological information and can be measured remotely non-destructively. There are several techniques measuring analysing this signal. However, the standard methods use rather extreme conditions, e.g., saturating light dark adaption, which difficult to accommodate field or a greenhouse and, hence, limit their high-throughput phenotyping. In article, we different approach, extracting plant health from dynamics of chlorophyll induced by weak excitation no classify plants healthy unhealthy. To evaluate method, scanned over number species (lettuce, lemon balm, tomato, basil, strawberries) exposed either abiotic stress (drought salt) biotic factors (root infection using Pythium ultimum leaf Powdery mildew Podosphaera aphanis). Our conclusions that, stress, proposed method was very successful, while, powdery mildew, with spatial resolution would desirable due nature infection, i.e., point-wise spread. on roots not visually detectable same way mildew; however, affects whole plant, making an option detection. further research necessary determine needed detect method.
